As always, if you are unfamiliar with what a Contrarian pick is, or wonder why you might want to bet one, please take a look at this article as a primer: Contrarian Betting - Calling the Dog on the Moneyline Here they are: Miami Fl +230 Notre Dame +300 Temple +325 Indiana +145 Oklahoma St +130 Penn State +400 WMU +325 ECU +260 Navy +180 Mizzou +260 Memphis +170 Kansas +230 Texas +180 SDSU +300 Florida +350 Wisconsin +130 SMU +240 A pretty decent slate this weekend. Though there are several games I like, I'll weed out anything less than +150 as I tend to avoid MLs that are that low in favor of getting the points in most instances. So after removing the low odds games, my favorites this week are Miami, Penn State, Kansas, Texas, and Florida Here's my take on each: Miami -- This team has yet to put together a full game this year, but the have show flashes of brilliance in games against UF and WVU. Berlin is still inconsistent and the running game may fall on the shoulders of Payton or Geathers making the job of the FSU defense that much easier. All that noted, I've seen too many games in this series come down to a missed FG and I'm still not entirely convinced Rix can win the big game. Penn State -- I don't like PSU here too much on their own merits, but rather based on a line of 400. Do I think Purdue is a bette team? Yes. do I think Purdue will win on Saturday? Yes. Do I believe that PSU could win one in three games against Purdue giving this line value? Yes. Kansas -- The Jayhawks have been on fire this year and have put it to just about everyone they've played. CU has looked flat and has suffered both blowout losses (FSU) and embarrassing upsets (Baylor). I'm not convinced CU will take this game seriously but I think KU of a bye week will. I think the Jayhawks have a great shot in this one. Texas -- This is the first time in the last four years that Texas hasn't come into this game as the favorite. Maybe that will change their luck. I think Young presents the Horns' best shot at a victory and can do to the Sooners what other mobile QBs (Roberson, Wallace, etc...) have done in the past. Giving the Horns an additional "running" threat may be enough of an edge in what I believe will be a closer game than in years past. Florida -- Moneyline bettig isn't always the wisest, and considering betting a team that is seemingly adrift with no real leadership yet against a strong LSU team on the road might seem foolhardy. Though that may well be the case, with a solid line of +350 this game still warrants consideration. UF desperately needs to "right their ship" and a big win on the road at LSU could definitely do that. They have the atheltes and the talent, they just need to put together one hell of a football game to get it to all work. So with that analysis, here’s the call: Against the Line Contrarian Picks calls Kansas +230 as our moneyline picks of the week. Want to disagree? Let me know in our forums: ATL Forums ----- |
