Now that we have finally emerged from week one of the college football season let's see what we can pull from the wreckage and shine up for future lessons when betting on the college gridiron.....

1. Overtime Throws Things Off
That Iowa State Toledo game "finished" at 23-23 before they headed into overtime. After it was all said and done, the game ended 45-43.

If you keep an eye out, you'll find a number of totals with these teams skewed because of the inflated numbers and as the season progresses, the same thing occurs quite often after teams put up huge numbers in OT. I don't often play the over/under, but unders are worth a look following a these overtime situations...

2. Consider the 1AA Dogs
Oftentimes these teams from 1AA are getting 25+ points and they come in fully "geeked" up to play a big name school. The flip side of the coin, is most of the big schools are looking past the challenger and don't get all that up for the game. Montana shocked CU this weekend in Dan hawkins debut on the Buff sideline and Kansas St barely eeked out a win against Illinois St.

These games aren't always the best situation for your betting dollar, and many times they are not even lined, but when they are, it is often worth your consideration.

3. Watch the Games
Though this should be intuitive enough, I cannot believe how many folks I run into who never watch a lick of college football outside their own favorite team but bet the games based on a hunch, or a tip from a friend.

While that is all fine and well in the eyes of the casino acepting your money, not watching the games and knowing your teams is a recipe for disaster. For instance, to the layman it might look like Georgia is stong this year after they racked up 48 points in the opener. However, those who watched the game would know that the Dogs didn't even muster 300 yards of offense and five of their scoring drives started less than 45 yards from the goalline. Similarly, the Ohio Bobcats rolled Tennessee Martin 29-3 and might look like a solid wager against NIU this week. However, the 'Cats also ha a rough go of it on offense picking up just 144 total yards.

That's all for this week folks, check back again next time for more college football betting tips as the week's progress.
