Perfect Record Guaranteed Scam

I'm constantly amazed by the sheer volume of fly by night handicappers and touts that pop up a website online and claim to have some insane record that guarantees you should be purchasing their picks. More likely than not, if you look at the top of the page you are reading right now, there is some advertisement in our "Adwords" section, of some Capper claiming to go 142-0 against the spread, or that he has hit 90% winners over the last three months.
And these ads are not something I am making up to emphasize a point, but rather real ads I have seen displayed on the site, and I have clicked on to investigate further. I won't spend hours delving into every scam perpetrated online in this article, but we'll knock out at least one of the ass-clowns listed above in this go round.
First and foremost... Idiots and scammers who claim to go 142-0 against the line, or that they are hitting at a clip of above 90%... they're full of shit and their sites prove the point.
The site that claims to be 142-0 in its Google AdWords campaign has this to say in the ad:
Football System 142-0
Turn $100 into $50,000. 100%
moneyback guarantee.
www.thebestbetonsports.net
Clicking the ad takes you to their page where the boasts are never ending:
Football system, since 2005 converted $100 into $60,000 142-0!
Baseball system, turn $100 into $50,000. 2007 record 122-15!
And why not try it? In huge caps on nearly every page the Best Bet touts:
YOU WILL MAKE MONEY USING THESE SYSTEMS GUARANTEED!!!!
And on and on...
But what if you take a closer look? How about we read the Terms and Conditions of the guarantee and what they actually promise. If I was guaranteed a $100 to $50K conversion, I might be damn happy to jump on board.
So here's the real skinny found on the "Terms" page here:

Football Guaranteed Picks
If our experts fail to win 55% or higher then you will be issued a 100% refund on your purchase. This guarantee is only good for the first week and you may cancel at anytime with no cancellation fee. If you decide not to cancel your card will be re billed every Tuesday of each week. Please note that after the first week and our experts fail to hit 55% of that week you will not be issued a refund. There will be no refunds given if a member purchases one month or one season of handicapping picks.
55% or higher? You have to be kidding me... there is no damn way to turn $100 into $50K over 142 games (claimed in the Google ad and on the site) with a 55% win percentage. Hell, that barely covers the juice. And the guarantee is only good for a week? What the fuck?
How about this other zinger from the same page:
I understand that for all system membership purchases I will be charged a one time activation fee of $39.95 additional to my first months membership fee. Repeat membership customers are not charged an activation fee There is a cancellation fee of 39.95 if there is a cancellation prior to 3 months of your subscription.
So not only does this service only guarantee 55% winners for a week, but they nail you for an activation fee in addition to the membership fee. Should the picks suck, and you want out of the deal, guess what, that'll cost you another $39.95 cancellation fee. (Though from reading the terms you may be able to get your cash back if you cancel before the Tuesday following your sign-up... but I'm not willing to risk $80 to find out. If you have used these guys, drop me a line at dontdisturbonsaturday@yahoo.com and lemme know what you found.)
Are these guys football handicappers or cell phone providers? I'm having a hard time discerning which.
And scams like this abound online everywhere. With a bit of knowledge and the ability to comprehend simple english, nearly anyone can slap together a functional website. It doesn't take much to start making boastful claims about your win percentage and with a handful of buyers at a minimum of $80 a pop after the activation and cancellation, it is pretty damn easy to reap the rewards of being a dirtball.
Anyway, until next time, don't fall for the hype, and always read the terms...
