| Pac-10 Week 9 Game Previews By Derek Wong Pac-10 Correspondent Oct 24, 2007 - 3:56:18 PM |
USC is coming off a 38-0 win at Notre Dame while Oregon demolished Washington 55-34. Mark Sanchez has been impressive starting in place of John David Booty. Oregon's spread offense has been unstoppable the whole season, but they face a big test against the Trojans. Oregon failed in their last big Pac-10 test at home against Cal, and need to limit their turnovers to win. Expect a high-scoring game that could come down to the wire.

Arizona vs Washington
Mike Stoops days as head coach of Arizona most likely will be coming to an end soon. Their latest loss was to Stanford at home last week. Washington is at home and is the favorite, but the Wildcats strength is their passing offense and the weakness of the Huskies defense is their secondary. Jake Locker must play better and Louis Rankin needs to get more rushing yards for the Huskies to win.

Stanford vs Oregon State
Oregon State plays a much improved Stanford team in Corvallis this Saturday. Stanford is playing hard and all the credit goes to their coach, Jim Harbaugh. Oregon State has some players dinged up on their offensive line and their top lineman, Roy Schuening, has walking pneumonia. Stanford must stop RB Yvenson Bernard or the Beavers will control the clock and keep QB Tavita Pritchard and his receivers off the field. Although Stanford upset Arizona last week, this Oregon State team is much better than the Wildcats and their defense will create turnovers and dominate Stanford's offense. Do not expect Stanford to win back to back road games.

UCLA vs Washington State
This is a very dangerous game for the Bruins. They have a lot of injuries on defense but they still have one of the best secondaries in the Pac-10. UCLA is coming off a big 30-21 victory over the Cal Bears. The Bears were almost in field goal range with two minutes left in the game, but Alterraun Verner's interception for a touchdown helped seal the win. The Bruins will be looking for revenge as they were embarrassed at home last year 37-15 to the Cougars.

Cal vs Arizona State
Cal has lost two in a row to Oregon State and UCLA. Arizona State will be without RB Ryan Torrain for the rest of the season. QB Rudy Carpenter will have to step up against the Bears defense led by Thomas DeCoud. ASU is coming off a bye week and will be inspired by their home crowd, but the Bears will win. Look for Nate Longshore,DeSean Jackson, and Justin Forsett to all make big plays.
