And here's a sample of a typical weekend pick breakdown:

Week one picks:
LSU -17.5 at Miss St.
UConn -4.5 at Duke
Wisconsin -14 v WSU
UCLA -17 at Stanford
C Michigan +8 at Kansas
Purdue -6.5 at Toledo

LSU -17.5 at Miss St
LSU is 9-1 ATS over the last 10 in this series and the sole loss was last year against a line at 33.5. In 05 they covered 14.5, in 04, 30.5, and in 03, 13.5. Over the last six years in the series the Tigers have beaten Miss St by an average score of 42 - 7. LSU does have the loss of number one DC Russell to contend with, but into his shoes steps able bodied Flynn who was Peach Bowl MVP in the last game he started. The Tigers do have a huge game on deck on the 8th hosting Va Tech, so may not go all out and risk an injury here if they establish a solid lead, but we like the to cover the 17.5 and make them the 1st pick of the 07-08 season.

UConn -4.5 at Duke
Duke enters this game with a 20 game SU losing streak and that is the longest in college football. The last time these two met, UConn pulled out a come from behind victory when Duke choked on a late FG giving the Huskies the 22-20 win. This season UConn returns the core of their offense (8 starters back) and Duke is its usual lamentable self. The Devils gave up double the points they scored last season and it is rare to see a line against the Devils not in double digits. UConn isn't a top echelon team, but they have plenty in the tank to beat the Blue Devils by a TD or greater.

Wisconsin -14 v WSU
Wisky should roll up the yardage against a defense that returns just five starters and has fared poorly in competition against the Big Ten in the past. Wisky stud RB PJ Hill should have a great day against an inexperienced LB corps for the Cougars and our yardage numbers predict nearly 250 yards total on the ground for the Badgers. Wisconsin is also consistently topping the PAC Ten and over the last nine are 7-1-1 ATS. We think the Badgers have ample resources to win and cover here and the numbers call for a 21 point victory.

UCLA -17 at Stanford
This is a dangerous game as UCLA has not fared well in this series of late and the home team is a superb 8-1 SU (6-1-2 ATS) in the series over the last nine. UCLA is 0-4 ATS in the last 4 visits to the Cardinal and has three upsets in that time frame. The above all noted and appropriate caution given, UCLA just has too much to not cover this spread. UCLA has 10 starters back on O and should pick up ground on the offensive side of the ball with a new OC in place after averaging only 23 PPG last season. Last year Stanford gave up over 30PPG and barely mustered 10. We like the Bruins to win convincingly here.

CMU +8 at Kansas
The first "Dog" of the season to make our pick card is Central Michigan. The MAC Champions last season CMU are lead by standout Soph QB Dan LeFevour who took MAC Frosh Player of the Year honors and recorded a 26-10 TD/Int ratio. KU hasn't fared exceptionally well against the MAC posting just a 5-6 record SU all time and though our numbers give them the SU win, it isn't by much.

Purdue -6.5 at Toledo
Though Toledo has fared well against BCS schools at home (defeated Kansas 06, Pitt 03, Minny 01, and Purdue 97) our numbers give Purdue a victory here against less than a TD line. The Boilers return 9 players on each side of the ball and Tiller has been solid (7-1) in season openers. Toledo currently holds a 4-11 record all time against the B10 and has a hug in conference game at C Michigan on the 8th which will have a large impact on the race for the MAC West.
