An era ended today at the University of Michigan as Head Football Coach Lloyd Carr announced his retirement.  Carr compiled 121 wins, five Big Ten Titles, and a National Championship while at the university.  He retired with a .752 winning percentage which was seventh among active coaches.

Numerous names are being bantered about as the next potential Head Coach including Les Miles (Head Coach of LSU), Kirk Ferentz (Head Coach of Iowa), Jon Gruden (NFL Head Coach of Tampa Bay), and Mike Trgovac (Assistant NFL Coach at Carolina).

In addressing the crowd Carr said, "On this week of Thanksgiving no one has more to be thankful for than I do...  but I'm not tired, I may look tired, but I still have a great passion for the game, for the players and for the competition. But I also know that there are some things that I don't have anymore, and so it's time. That's all I can say to you."

Carr also addressed the fact that he believes that regardless who the next coach is, that the institutional integrity must be maintained at Michigan.  "In the big picture the character of this institution will be defined by the way this program is run, and that really is what Michigan is about and what I hope will always be about."
