After compiling a record of 35-27 and five straight bowl appearances UCLA Bruin Head Coach Karl Dorrell was fired according to athletic director Dan Guerrero.

In a release, Guerrero noted, "I hired Karl five years ago in the hopes that this program would grow and prosper under his leadership. In many ways, it did. But after an analysis of the five-year tenure at the helm, and my discussions with him through the season, my discussions with him even yesterday, I felt it was important for us and this program to move forward."

Names mentioned in consideration for the now open position include Texas Tech Head Coach Mike Leach, NFL Coach Steve Mariucci, and Boise St Head Coach Chris Peterson.
